Welcome
First of all, I would like to welcome you to Business English Space! Thanks for joining me to improve your Business English.
To start with, we should look at some salient features of this specific course:
- We will be concentrating on using English as a communication tool when interacting with other business people globally;
- Although grammar skills are very important and sometimes essential in negotiations, this course focusses on the receptive skills (listening and reading) and productive skills (writing and speaking);
- We will also be focussing on business vocabulary and business activities for the workplace;
- In the course, you’re welcome to share your opinions, recommendations, and work situations in any one of the various contact forms in the Business English Space, Facebook, Linkedin, or Messenger.
- Furthermore, the lessons contain exercises to help you to develop your Business English practically.
Should you wish to practise your English or prepare yourself for a meeting/interview/presentation you may also purchase Skype Sessions. In these Skype Sessions we can merely talk to practise or you can send me details before the meeting/interview/presentation to enable me to prepare myself for the sessions.

- A digital certificate will be issued on completion of the course on 3 levels namely: 1. Attendance 2. Achievement 3. Excellence

I would like to introduce myself but in a way where you ask me questions to arrive at one of the exact answers below in the quiz. Once you have read the first paragraph, find out more about me by asking the questions in the quiz. Read the next paragraph and then do the quiz.
My name is Dirk Le Roux. I’m South African, born in Pretoria, the capital of South Africa. My mother tongue (or language) is Afrikaans, similar to Dutch. English is the accepted language in South Africa for government, business, and education communication. Mostly Afrikaans-speaking people grew up speaking both Afrikaans and English, they are therefore bi-lingual.
I’ve made a video basically repeating what is in this Introduction. The reason is to allow you to see what I look like and to relate to me in a relaxed and easy-going manner. My main aim is that you converse in a relaxed way and enjoy communicating in English.
The aim of the quiz is twofold: Firstly to get to know a little about me, and secondly to encourage you to practise asking questions. Do the quiz “Let us meet” at bottom of the page (under Lesson Content or in the left sidebar) now and afterwards write me a short self-introduction and submit it for evaluation (submit it below). Follow the following structure for your self-introduction:
- Start with one or two sentences stating your name and age;
- One or two sentences about your country and where you were born;
- Where do you live currently;
- One or two sentences about your family and whether you’re married;
- Introduce your job and position. Mention your education;
- What hobbies do you have?
- What do you like to do in the future?
